MLB Betting: Chicago White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers- June 4th, 2014

With a full slate of games in the MLB tonight, one game that has to catch the eye features the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers. These two teams are coming down to the final game of the series, and it’s been an interesting series, especially for the White Sox’ Jose Abreu. Abreu has lit up the Dodgers for a home run in each of the last two games. He has five RBIs in the two games and has just had the Dodgers’ number it seems. His numbers this season are incredibly impressive with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs, and if the Dodgers want to win this one, they’ll need to be sure to slow him down to make life easier on themselves. The game starts at 10:10pm EST.

The White Sox are sending ¬†John Danks out to the mound for this game, and he has a 3-5 record with a 4.66 ERA on the year. He’s had two impressive games in a row after giving up seven earned runs (eight total) in less than five innings against Houston in mid-May. He’s actually done well against the Dodgers in his career, going 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA, but he’s shown issues with control this season, although the last two games have been a different story.

Now for the Dodgers, as they just found out that youngster Yasiel Puig was named National League player of the month for May, as he batted .398 and hit eight home runs with 25 RBIs through 28 games. He’s been great for the Dodgers’ offense lately, but he needs to get some help from the rest of the roster. In the last three games the Dodgers have managed only three extra-base hits. They’re sending Josh Beckett to the mound with a 3-2 record and a 2.52 ERA, so they are hoping that he can keep the White Sox from scoring much, if at all.

It’s hard to bet against a pitcher who has thrown a no-hitter this season, and after doing that back against Philadelphia on May 25th, Beckett came back with a strong outing allowing just two runs to Pittsburgh on Friday. He’s seen opposing batters hit just .197 against him, and I think he’ll be able to keep the White Sox from scoring more than a run or two. The Dodgers are big favorites of -175, but they are the bet tonight thanks to Beckett and Puig. Expect to see a few others step up as well.
