One of the biggest fights in history will take place on August 26, 2017 as Floyd Mayweather will come out of retirement and take on Mixed Martial Artist Conor McGregor. This fight will be a boxing match, not a MMA fight.

The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be in the junior middleweight division (154lbs). This fight basically began over a year ago on social media and caught fire that turned into a complete fully engulfed out of control wildfire! The hype for this fight was instant and the public jumped on the hype train early, forcing the hands of UFC President Dana White to put this fight together.

Conor McGregor is 21-3 in the world of Mixed Martial Arts and will be making his boxing debut. McGregor is accustomed to fighting in either three, five minute MMA rounds or in title fights that are five, five minute rounds. This fight will be 12, 3 minute rounds.

Floyd Mayweather is 49-0 in his sport of boxing and will be coming out of retirement for this fight. Mayweather’s last 7 fights and 12 out of his last 14 fights all ended by decision. Mayweather has never been known for being a knockout style fighter and would prefer to have his opponents chase him around the ring and counter punch throughout the fight.

Many different experts have chimed in and given their opinion of this fight. Many people feel that after watching Conor McGregor’s MMA fights that he will gas in the fight and the fight won’t make it out of the 3rd round. McGregor has only gone the distance 2 times in his entire career and has shown extreme lack of cardio after the 2nd round in most of his fights that don’t end in the 1st round. That could play a key role knowing that this fight is a 12 round boxing match but what most people aren’t taking into consideration is that a MMA fight takes a considerable more amount of energy to defend takedowns, carry an opponent’s weight, throw strikes and use their strength to try to submit their opponent.

In boxing, professional boxers simply have the goal of avoid being hit and strike more than your opponent. We are not talking about 5 x 5 minute rounds of a total of 25 minutes, we are talking about 12 x 3 minute rounds for a total of 36 minutes. Sounds like a lot when you say 12 round right, but the reality is it’s only 11 more minutes of fighting and fighters will get 12 minutes of rest throughout the fight between rounds.

I predict this fight will be a long drawn out boring style of fight. When I originally started thinking about this fight, I too thought that Conor couldn’t last 12 rounds but the reality is he is only going 3 minute rounds and able to rest for a minute. You can pretty much be assured that this fight will be boring and long and lack a ton of action but it will be the richest fight in the world and in the history of combat sports.
