College Basketball Betting — Syracuse Has to Bounce Back From Duke Defeat Against Maryland

For the moment, at least until the new polls come out, the Syracuse Orange are the #1 team in the country. But right now that is not their concern.

What they are most interested in doing is avoiding a three-game losing streak, and so patrons doing their wagering at BetDSI they must attend to business on Monday night as they visit the Maryland Terrapins in college basketball betting action that is scheduled to begin at 7 PM Eastern time at the Comcast Center.

Syracuse, which won its first 25 games of the season, has lost consecutive outings, first to a Boston College team that is a non–contender in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and then in a blood rematch against Duke which took place at Cameron Indoor Stadium, and was highlighted by some controversy at the end. Right now they are 25-2 straight up, with a 12-2 record within the conference (and 14-9 against the basketball odds), and while they should be able to stay within the top 10, it will be likely the bottom part.

Maryland is 15-12 straight up and 7-7 in the ACC this season, with a 13-10 mark against the number. This is the only time these schools will meet as conference foes; next year Maryland will move to the Big 10, and that is a shift that has brought its share of controversy to the athletic program. Since the ACC made sure that neither Duke nor North Carolina visited them this season, this will be by far the biggest event on the home schedule in College Park.

In the college basketball betting lines that have been posted at BetDSI on this game, Syracuse is the road favorite:

Syracuse Orange -4
Maryland Terrapins +4

Over 131 points -110
Under 131 points -110

Depending on what price you got Syracuse at on Saturday, you either won, lost or pushed. There is no question that NCAA hoops bettors who lost the contest at Duke suffered what is commonly known as the “bad beat.” That’s because there was just a two-point margin with 10 seconds remaining, when a blocking foul was called against Syracuse and made coach Jim Boeheim go nuts. When all was said and done, he had two technical fouls called against him and Duke made four free throws to make the final margin 66-60.

What BetDSI customers want to focus on from a college basketball betting standpoint is the fact that Syracuse has let its shooting going to the toilet, hitting just 35.4% over the last three games – which have taken place against North Carolina State, Boston College and Duke – and that this team has done a very poor job in stretching enemy defenses, hitting just six of their 33 attempts from beyond the three-point arc in those three contests.

What is also a concern for those backing Syracuse in their basketball picks is the fact that this team has hardly even had a chance to recover before going in against an ACC foe which might be rather dangerous. Maryland has covered its last four games in the sportsbook betting odds, and not only did they hang in there with Virginia, which currently leads the regular-season standings in the conference, they also went right to the wire with Duke, losing by just two points. If anybody thought there would be a cakewalk in College Park, they came to the wrong place.

Maryland is coming off a win over Wake Forest, in which they got help from a rather unexpected place. Nick Faust came off the bench to score 20 points, a career-high, to lead a 71-60 win over the Demon Deacons. Since the ACC is a strong conference, the twelve losses on the part of the Terrapins are not exactly a death sentence. If they can come away with a win in this particular game, they will strengthen their argument with the NCAA Selection Committee.
