Basketball Betting — Suns Get Bledsoe Back For Date with Cavaliers

Things have not been going that well for the Phoenix Suns lately. In fact, this team has really suffered on defense and has managed to lose its spot in the Western Conference playoff order, so you can imagine that they could use an emotional boost right now.

And they are about to get one.

The Suns are expected to welcome back guard Eric Bledsoe on Wednesday night, when they play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers in basketball betting action that is set to begin at 10:05 PM ET at the US Airways Center.

Phoenix comes into this game with a record of 36-27 straight-up, which puts them one game behind Memphis for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. The Suns have a pointspread record of 41-21-1, which is still the best in the league. Cleveland is 24-40 straight-up and 28-36 against the basketball odds. They still have a glimmer of hope in the East, but they are four games behind the Atlanta Hawks and can’t seem to take advantage of the fact that the Hawks have faltered badly.

In the basketball betting odds that have been established at BetDSI on this ballgame, the Suns are solid favorites:

Phoenix Suns -8
Cleveland Cavaliers +8

Over 210 points -110
Under 210 points -110

Bledsoe missed 39 games with a knee injury, and perhaps he is coming back just in time to help with Phoenix team that has lost six of its last nine games. Whether he is going to get a lot of playing time is an interesting question, but it is known that he will be coming off the bench. Will he be disruptive to team chemistry right at the start? Well, that much is unknown, but certainly Bledsoe would have to be a boon to the Suns on the defensive and, inasmuch as they have allowed 52.5% shooting over these last nine games. In the games that Bledsoe has been missing, Phoenix has allowed five more points on average than the games in which he has played.

Part of the reason Phoenix has surprised so many basketball bettors is the fact that he has made for very effective combination the backcourt with Goran Dragic, giving the Suns two very capable ball handlers who can also score. This was the brainchild of first-year coach Jeff Hornacek, and it really injected some life into this team, which until these last few days has been right there in the playoff mix. They can easily get there again, but they have to learn how to stop people; each of the last seven opponents Phoenix has played has made at least half its shots.

BetDSI customers who follow Western Conference basketball closely are aware that Bledsoe is probably the best on-ball defender Phoenix has. So he will be counted on heavily as the season progresses toward the end. He will likely see some time going up against Kyrie Irving, the talented point guard for the Cavaliers, and because Cleveland is a team deep in guards, he’ll be challenged even with the second unit. And let’s keep in mind that there is a chance Cleveland may also be bringing one of their guards back into the rotation, as CJ Miles might be returning from ankle injury that is put him out of action for the last nine games. However, keep an eye on the situation, as Miles did not practice with the team on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers look like they were experiencing a case of “addition by subtraction” when they fired general manager Chris Grant following a disappointing 119-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. That seemed to be a wake-up call for the troops, who won six games in a row and covered seven straight against the NBA odds. But that good feeling has evaporated, as Cleveland has gone on to lose seven of its subsequent nine games. They have covered only two of their last eight contests against the basketball betting odds.

In the previous meeting between the squads, which took place on January 26, Cleveland blew a 20-point lead as the Suns rallied back for 99-90 victory. Markieff Morris had a dominant game, scoring 27 points and pulling down 15 rebounds, and Cleveland, which led 61-43 at the half, scored just six points in the third quarter.
