Basketball Betting Odds — Grizzlies and Mavericks Battle For Right NOT To Face Spurs – Get It?

There is one game above the others that has some meaning in the NBA for Wednesday, and it involves a couple of teams that might fight like hell to avoid the strong possibility of a quick first-round playoff ouster. The Memphis Grizzlies will be taking on the Dallas Mavericks in basketball betting action, with the winner not only picking up a 50th victory of the season, but also wrapping up the seventh playoff spot in the West. Game time is slated for 8:05 PM ET at the FedEx Forum.

Both of these teams are going to the post-season, but they are going to battle it out for a #7 seed and an opening round matchup that is going to take place against the Oklahoma City Thunder (although the Los Angeles Clippers still have a chance at that spot). The loser gets #8, and a date with the #1-seeded San Antonio Spurs, who have swept both teams this year.

Bookmaker customers also are aware that the Spurs swept the Grizzlies in four games in the Western Conference finals last season, and there is no evidence, frankly, that Memphis is in any position to do better this season. We certainly don’t want to disparage the Grizzlies, who have won 22 out of their last 32 games, which is the third-best record in the West over that period, but they have probably regressed a bit on the defensive side and are going in with a rookie head coach in Dave Joerger, who replaced Lionel Hollins, who was unceremoniously dismissed after that playoff sweep last year.

Both of these teams clinched their respective playoff spots against the Phoenix Suns, which became the odd team out in the West. While the Mavericks came back form thirteen points down against the Suns four nights ago, the Grizzlies blew a big lead, and then came back from behind to defeat Phoenix with a late rush.

Nobody is backing into their playoff spot; the Mavericks, headed up by coach Rick Carlisle, have won five of their last six games, while the Grizzlies have won four straight. But this doesn’t mean that either team has made any money for sportsbook bettors of late; in fact, Memphis has covered only two of its last eleven games against the NBA odds, while Dallas is only 3-6 against the pointspread over its last nine.

Both teams have a little angle going for them that Bookmaker patrons are sure to consider in their analysis of the basketball betting odds. Dallas has not played since that game against Phoenix, meaning that they have experienced three full days off. That carries with it some significance at the conclusion of a long regular season. The Mavs have won six straight games on the road, and they have a sizzling mark against the pontspread as the visitor, covering 26 out of 40 games.

But Memphis has been building a fortress of sorts at the FedEx Forum, with thirteen straight victories there. If they can make it fourteen, they will not have to serve as cannon fodder for San Antonio in the opening round.

And when you challenge yourself against the basketball betting odds, doesn’t it make sense to do it where the line originates? We think so, which is why we recommend as your sportsbook to take you right through to the end of the NBA playoffs!
