Basketball Betting — Heat Trying to Avoid Losing Fourth in Row Against Wizards

The Miami Heat have been going through a bit of a dry period of late, dropping three straight games. Basketball bettors at know that is going to turn around sooner or later, but will that start happening on Monday night? We’ll see, as the two-time defending champions play host to the Washington Wizards in a game that is slated to begin at 7:35 PM ET at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.

The Heat are still chasing the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference, and have been losing out on an opportunity to catch up while Indiana is not playing its best ball of the season. They are 43-17, which leaves them a game and a half out of that #1 spot in the conference. Washington would love to get into the upper half of the East playoff queue, which would give them a home court advantage in the opening round of action. At 33-29, they are a game and a half behind fourth-place Chicago, and 2.5 games in back of third-place Toronto.

In the basketball betting lines that have been established at Bookmaker on this game, the Heat is laying points, which is no surprise:

Miami Heat -6.5
Washington Wizards +6.5

Over 204 points -110
Under 204 points -110

However, what might be a surprise indeed, if you are just tuning in, is that Miami has been losing to some of the teams it may have to come across on the way to a third straight NBA title, falling to the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, all on the road. LeBron James has been somewhat cold, hitting just 39% over this three-game stretch and averaging just a little more than 19 points a game. James has now taken off his mask, which he was wearing to protect his broken nose. He says he was just not comfortable with it, despite the fact that he had scored 61 points against the Charlotte Bobcats while wearing it.

Miami has allowed three of its last four opponents to shoot better than 50%. And the Wizards have been better than 50% in four of their last six games. Bookmaker customers have to take notice when they see Washington in the visitor’s role, as they are the best in the NBA in that respect when it comes to beating the basketball betting odds, as they are 22-9 ATS, covering eight of their last nine.

And it is interesting to see that the Wizards have compensated for the loss of Nene Hilario. When Hilario went down with an MCL injury, there was some concern because the Wizards had won only 19% of the games Hilario had missed since he had joined the team. But all they have done since he’s been out is win five of their last six games. John Wall, who had 25 points against Miami in the last meeting in Washington, has oled the charge along with center Marcin Gortat, who is now thriving.

The Heat have won 24 of their 28 home games, and in this one they will be looking for a similar result to the first meeting this season between these clubs, which was a 103-93 victory in which they shot 53% (November 3). On January 15 the Wizards won a rather easy 114-97 decision at the Verizon Center. That games was more reflective of the way these teams are shooting at the moment, as Miami hit just 44% (wheat they have done in their last three contests) and Washington shooting almost 55%.
