2014 World Cup Betting: USA vs. Ghana- June 16th, 2014

Monday is the start of the World Cup for the United States of America’s Men’s National Team. Their first opponent? They get a team who has really had their number in recent World Cups in Ghana. This is a team who just has been able to strike early and put the pressure on the United States. While there are a ton of great games, this a game that many are curious as to which way it’ll go, because it’s been said that if either team wants to have a shot to get out of this “group of death” that also features Germany and Portugal, that they need to get a win against the other one in the first group match against each other. This game is set to get underway at 6:00pm EST, and should be an incredible game.

For the United States, there are a few key factors that can get them the win in this game, and they include their big names. Goalie Tim Howard is going to be tested plenty, and he’ll need to be strong in the back, while offensive players Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey are going to need to consistently create chances for the Americans against Ghana. A few others that we need to mention are Jermaine Jones and Michael Bradley in the midfield, as they are going to need to slow down the incredibly athletic Ghana mid-field, which is going to be a tough task.

The Black Stars have so much talent as well to mention, including Kevin Prince-Boateng, whose brother also plays in this group for Germany. ¬†They’ll also add veterans in Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien, who are going to be forces for Ghana in this one. This is a Ghana team who gave up only six goals through World Cup qualifying, but they get to go against a USA team who really has something to prove and their offense is clicking right now. Asamoah Gyan will be big, as he’s going to have to cause issues for the USA defense, just like he has over past years. He’s been the leading scorer for the team in qualifying, and will look to continue that trend.

The United States is +210 to win this match, while Ghana is +164, showing us exactly how close many expect this game to be. I think that the United States is able to get past Ghana and prove that this team doesn’t have their number in this World Cup. It’ll be a close one, and I see it ending at 2-1 USA.
